Let’s Silent for Earth

indonesia

Dear People of the Earth,

On 23 March 2012 Bali, otherwise known as the island of paradise, will be silent and dark. The International Airport will be closed for 24 hours; no people or vehicle will pass by ont he roads, in the entire island. Lights will be off, except in houses where there are infants, in the police station and in hospitals. This is a common sight annually in Bali to mark the Saka New Year, known as Tapa Brata Penyepian or The Silent Ritual (NYEPI) . During Nyepi, Bali reduces 20,000 tons of carbon dioxide emission.

This year the World Silent Day Team takes you again on a JOURNEY OF SILENCE FOR THE EARTH on 21 March 2012. We remind you of the simple steps:

  1. Wednesday 21 March 2012

  2. Only four hours: 10.am -2 pm, or choose your own timings.

  3. Switch off electronic appliances, reduce use of motor vehicles and activities that use up a lot of resources, plant trees, build relations with families, colleague and neighbours.

  4. Write your silent experience to mysilent@worldsilentday.org.

This will reduce global warming based on community and group actions. If for some reason you cannot participate on March 21, you can still be silent on March 23 together with the Bali community.

LET THE EARTH BREATHE FOR ONE DAY
WORLD SILENT DAY – 21 MARCH

Mari Berhenti Berlari (Puisi)

Indahnya rembulan, bintang

dan galaksi bintang-bintang

sirna oleh gemerlap lampu

malam yang gelap menjadi gemerlap

malam yang semestinya hening menjadi pening

Dalam mengejar ilusi kebahagiaan

di luar diri

memenuhi segala keinginan untuk senang

manusia mencipta segala alat dan mesin

tapi kita tak pernah merasa senang

adakah kita menjadi tenang ?

kita malah terus berperang Read the rest of this entry »

“Im so surpirse, thank you very much, we are so appriciate…yesterday my husband got an accident and my son has birth on unpredictable date!” kata Meera, warga India yang menetap sementara di RS Puri Bunda Denpasar.

Semoga bayi-bayi ini tumbuh dan berkembang seiring pohon yang selalu memberi manfaat bagi sekitarnya.

“jangan lupa merawat tamanan yaa” :)

World Silent Day’s Emphaty and Solidarity to Japan

indonesia

TO THE PEOPLE AND NATION OF JAPAN

Trough Consul General of Japan

AN EXPRESSION OF SOLIDARITY EMPATHY from BALI

To the people and nation of Japan,

We are several members of the community in Bali, that are members and supporters of the World Silent Day campaign (www.worldsilentday.org) We express our deepest empathy and solidarity to the people of Japan in this difficult times. Our prayers and thoughts are with those who have faced the sufferings due to the Tsunami and concurrent disaster in Japan, including the possible radiation disaster due to accident at the nuclear power plant.

Today, on March 21, we are celebrating the World Silent Day (WSD), as inspired by the Hindu Bali New year of Nyepi. On this day, we ask people to conduct activities that can help to reduce green house gases, as also a way to tackle climate change. We ask people to do this for four hours from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. The Balinese have conducted their silent day for hundreds of year for 24 hours. That 24 hours of silence can save a minimum of 20,000 tons of CO2 equivalent. We can imagine if the entire world goes on a silent journey for one day.

On this day, WSD members took time to offer prayers and sympathy in silence for the victims of Tsunami and their families and the safety of the Japanese people. We offer prayers that leaders of the world would open up their inspiration about the the need to change the way we do things, so as to reduce disasters, including the nuclear disasters. We ask that leaders of the world be given energy of inspiring thoughts about the need to save the earth in order to save humanity. After all we have only one Mother Earth.

We hope that the disaster in Japan would become an inspiration to create change. We hope also that the Japanese people and Nation would be able to join us in the journey into silence as one of the easy effort to help create that change. Let us let Mother Earth breathe easier without pollution and radiation. Together, in solidarity, we can make that happen.

We hope the victims of the Japan disaster can become leaders to lead us to a better world.

Please convey our message to the people and nation of Japan.
