World Silent Day Movement Will Bring the World to 350 ppm
350 is the number that leading scientists say is the safe upper limit for carbon dioxide—measured in “Parts Per Million” in our atmosphere. 350 PPM—it’s the number humanity needs to get back to as soon as possible to avoid runaway climate change. As those reason, one of our effort is joined with youths from whole Asia on Asian Youth Climate Workshop 2009, 3-5 Oktober 2009 in Bangkok. This event organized by 350, which also gave both of us the scholarship so that we can went to Bangkok. In this event, the participants which about 70 youths gave new colours in my next workshop. The Workshop discuss little bit about UNFCCC process (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) and how the way to make effective action and need few of fund (that was very excited when doing art painting on a cloth or exnewspaper-to keep our money and implementations of using the materials that can be easily to recycle).
Cheerful is filling this workshop with voices of sharing each own experiences in action on climate change and each participants that represented their organizstion also doing some advocacy about their programmes. When sharing experiences actions in each country session, every participants sat on large podium. Begun from Nepal, then Hongkong, and when the speaker said Indonesia! We all of youths from Indonesia (which about 10 persons) looked each other and I don’t wanna lose the chance, I rose my hand up and jumped from my chair that located on part of higher podium (as very difficult to reach a way from my chair, many people sat near me). Direclty I told about Bali Collaboration on Climate Change (BCCC) and it always should be to tell about WORLD SILENT DAY (WSD)with highly passion, even honestly this session is session of country introducement and sharing of experiences, remember about basis of democration, I also ask all participants, speaker and committee to fill signature form. Surprised me again, many people asked me to gave them more signature forms so that they can bring to their own country. Only in 10 minutes and once explanations about World Silent Day, those thing can be accepted by all youths around Asian in 1st day of the Workshop. Herni as my team on BCCC also did our campaign by selling the WSD T-shirts. She hung the T-shirts in the Lobby’s window of Hotel we were stayed. With her enthusiastic to sell the T-shirts, many friends asked and bought the T-shirts. GO WSD!
Next day in workshop the speaker guided us to take real action and told us basic technic on understanding about climate change, that might be many from us have understood about that. I think the most important knowledge from this workshop is “Technic of Effective Action” and unity of all Asian youth so that our action can be seen and our aim can be reach faster, aim to bring world to 350. The Commiitee gave us the symbol of our friendship and commitment to fighting to handle the climate change, the symbol is a bracelet. The committee also remind us to do something in Global Day of Action on October 24, 2009. With 350.org we will get some help and new network so that our voice can be heard around the world.
After the workshop finished, we got accreditation to attend UN Climate Change talks. With some people from Solar Generation, Tick Tick, Indigenous People Organization of Thailand, etc we did action which walked around UN building and said “350!”, “Climate Justice”, and other jargon said “Lets do something in right hey head of governance!” and so on. Though we were tired and felt hot weather, we believe that our way will give positive change for earth. I hope our emissions from our actions lesser than what we give to protect this earth.
With spirit that always on for the sustainability world, never stop fighting!.
