WORLD SILENT DAY FOR THE EARTH
Bali Collaboration for the Climate Change -known as Kolaborasi Bali - reminded communities of the World Silent Day (WSD), in Denpasar. WSD to be conducted every March 21 is one of the efforts to reduce the impacts of the climate change and respond to the international conference on climate change held in Bali last December 2007.
After the conference in December 2007, Kolaborasi Bali with the world community that are concerned about climate change, conducted the first WSD last March 21 2008, by appealing the public to reduce the use of the electronics for four hours, at 10,00-14,00 local time and the next day, followed by giving tree saplings to babies born in this date. In addition, Kolaborasi Bali also organized some workshops and discussions about climate change with several community groups and the professionals since August 2007.
On October 15, 2008 Kolaborasi Bali organized an event to report back to the public about its activities and provide information about various responses to WSD.
This event that was opened for the public from all ages, also included a story telling session for children, with the topic “Climate Change and World Silent Day”, followed by film screening, slide show reporting WSD 2008, and launching of the new website. The World Silent Day appreciation was symbolically awarded to volunteers and participants of the program.
Through this public accountability session, Kolaborasi Bali wanted to inform the Balinese community, especially in Denpasar and surrounding area about various activities that have been carried out from August 2007 up to March 2008 and various responses on the World Silent Day. We also hope to make the website as media to gather further public support for World Silent
Day and ask that the Balinese community and the world support and join the World Silent Day 2009 on March 21 2009.
The journey towards implementation of WSD 2009 (on March 21 2009), will also include the Global Day of Action on December 6 2008 and collection of 10 million signatures to support the World Silent Day.
